Reader Question:

Report This Dx for Postpartum Gestational Hypertension

Question: What ICD-10 code should I report for “Gestational Hypertension, postpartum?”

Florida Subscriber

Answer: As of October 1, 2016, a new code went into effect to handle this. You should use O13.5 (Gestational [pregnancy-induced] hypertension without significant proteinuria, complicating the puerperium), assuming she has been discharged from the hospital after delivery. You should use O13.4 (Gestational [pregnancy-induced] hypertension without significant proteinuria, complicating childbirth) if post delivery but still in the hospital.
