Reader Question:

Rhogam Injections

Question: How should we code Rhogam injections?

California Subscriber   Answer: It depends on the carriers preference. Code 90384 (Rho[D] immune globulin [RhIg], human, full-dose, for intramuscular use) designates the product only, so it should be submitted with 90782 (Therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic injection [specify material injected]; subcutaneous or intramuscular). If the carrier uses HCPCS codes for the drug supply, then submit J2790 (Injection, Rho [D] immune globulin, human, one dose package) instead, along with 90782. The only way to know for sure which code to submit is to contact the carrier in advance and determine its preference.
