Update Your Modifiers for Telehealth
Question: If we provide telehealth services from our practice’s offices, do we need to append modifier GT to these services? Ohio Subscriber Answer: No. Although you previously had to append modifier GT (Via interactive audio and video telecommunication systems) to telehealth services, CMS dropped this requirement in January 2018. Currently, you should use place of service (POS) code 02 (Telehealth) for the express purpose of indicating “the location where health services and health-related services are provided or received, through a telecommunication system.” “The use of the telehealth POS code 02 certifies that the service meets the telehealth requirements (via interactive audio and video telecommunications systems),” according to CMS.
