Reader Questions:

CRPS Can Be RSD or Causalgia

Question: My physiatrist listed his diagnosis as LLE Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I can't seem to find this ICD-9 code . What should I report?

Answer: For CRPS Type 1, otherwise known as RSD, you should 337.22 (Reflex sympathetic dystrophy of the lower limb) for lower extremity. For CRPS Type 2, otherwise known as causalgia, you should report 355.71 (Causalgia of lower limb) for lower extremity. Check with your provider as to which type is appropriate.
