Answer: Beginning Oct. 1, 2025, codes will be available for reporting genetic susceptibility to specific types of cancer. Five current Z codes have been converted to parent codes, one Z code has been revised, and 28 Z codes have been added to the code family.

New Z codes are available to report genetic susceptibility to some types of cancer, such as:

  • Z15.05 (Genetic susceptibility to malignant neoplasm of fallopian tube(s))
  • Z15.06 (Genetic susceptibility to malignant neoplasm of digestive system)
  • Z15.060 (Genetic susceptibility to colorectal cancer)
  • Z15.068 (Genetic susceptibility to other malignant neoplasm of digestive system)
  • Z15.07 (Genetic susceptibility to malignant neoplasm of urinary tract)
  • Z15.3 (Genetic susceptibility to kidney disease)

There are now codes available to report specific circumstances with family history of certain kidney conditions. Code Z84.1 (Family history of disorders of kidney and ureter) has been converted to parent. New codes Z84.11 (Family history of APOL1-mediated kidney disease [AMKD]) and Z84.19 (Family history of other disorders of kidney and ureter) will be available.
