Pulmonology Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinical Trial

Question: As I was reading Medicares Final Rules, I noticed a fee schedule for a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic Trial. What is this and how would I code for it?

Michigan Subscriber

Answer: On page 74 of the beginning section of the Final Rule it states that the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinical Trial has a status indicator A, and is not paid under the APC. It is not payable yet. Please keep in mind that the APC system is set up for Medicare Hospital Outpatient Payment, and not physician payment.
