In this procedure, the provider performs surgical closure of a tracheostomy, an opening in the trachea through the neck, or of a tracheocutaneous fistula. A tracheocutaneous fistula is a complication of a tracheostomy in which the tracheostomy does not heal properly, typically accompanied by a depressed scar over the opening between the trachea and skin. He performs the closure without plastic repair.
