The provider obliterates, or corrects, an aortopulmonary defect in a patient by fixing a pericardial or synthetic patch to the area. The provider performs this procedure in a patient with an anomaly of the heart in which there is abnormal communication between the ascending aorta and the pulmonary artery that has been present from birth. The provider performs this procedure without cardiopulmonary bypass.
