Code 37181 represents the surgical connection of veins by means of an open procedure, as opposed to a percutaneous procedure. During the surgery, the splenic vein (the vein from the spleen) is detached from the portal vein and reattached to the left kidney (renal) vein. This procedure reduces high blood pressure in the stomach and esophagus.
