During this procedure, the provider removes the tonsils, tonsillar pillars, and/or the retromolar trigone (the small area behind the wisdom teeth). If necessary, he also removes portions of the maxilla or mandible that are affected. He closes the wound using a skin flap that is rotated from the chest. This procedure is often used to remove cancerous growths.
