The provider takes down a previously created enterostomy, a surgically created opening between the large or small bowel and the outside of the abdomen, and cuts away the scarred or devitalized tissue at the ends of the two sections of intestine afterwhich he sutures the two ends together to restore anatomical route of the colon.
