Summary

The provider aspirates fluid or tissue from the soft pads between the vertebrae of the spinal column, called the intervertebral discs. Or he aspirates fluid from within the paravertebral tissue (the tissue adjacent to the spinal column). He may also aspirate the gel–like substance in the middle of a spinal disc (nucleus pulposus). This diagnostic service helps to identify causes of disc inflammation such as bacterial or fungal infections.
