The lab analyst performs the technical lab test using optical genome mapping (OGM), which produces high–resolution images of long strands of DNA to evaluate the entire genome. This test identifies structural variants (changes in chromosome structure, such as inversions or translocations) and copy number variants (CNVs, deletions or duplications of DNA segments) that may be linked to developmental delays or other conditions present from birth.
