Code 86596 describes a test to identify an antibody to voltage–gated calcium channel (VGCC), in a specimen such as serum. The typical lab method for this test is radioimmunoassay (RIA). The presence of the certain VGCC antibodies, especially P/G type and possibly N–type, aids in diagnosis of Lambert–Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), which is an autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle weakness and often associated with small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
