Summary
The lab analyst performs the technical steps to evaluate whether an organism, grown in culture from the patient's specimen, produces carbapenemase enzymes. These enzymes allow the organism to resist carbapenem antibiotics. The test uses a multiplex immunoassay, which screens for several different carbapenemase enzymes at once and reports results qualitatively (positive or negative).
