Hi,

I am looking for consensus of when Ulcerative Colitis in remission can be called History of Ulcerative Colitis. Does the patient have to have had a resection first and be symptom free for a specific time period or can it be someone who has been in remission x3 yrs with no meds be considered history of?

Ulcerative Colitis is a lifelong disease (thought to be autoimmune) and not curable. Remission would be coded as the type of ulcerative colitis without complications, you would only code history of when the patient had a full colectomy. UC can be in remission for many years but is still an active, chronic disease
