Dear AAPC New CPC Members,

We’re thrilled to open applications for our remote coding externship program designed to give you the hands-on experience you’ve been searching for—and for top performers, a potential offer for continued work/gig.
We’ve been following the common frustration voiced here on AAPC forums:
👉 “How do I get my first job when every job requires experience?”
👉 “How do I remove the ‘A’ from my CPC-A?”
👉 "How do I set foot in healthcare?"
👉 "Practicode helps removing the A, but does not help with job experience or hands-on learning" and so on

🔍 About the Externship

📍 Remote | 💼 Real Experience | 🎯 Potential Employment

This is not just a shadowing gig. You’ll get meaningful, hands-on experience in real-time coding reviews, audits, regulatory compliance projects, and operational workflows. You’ll be mentored by certified professionals in a firm that advises the Department of Health, Department of Education (on healthcare related matters), Big 4 Firms, American Arbitration Association, litigation specialist and major hospitals/ healthcare providers.
  • Remote positions
  • Flexible hours (negotiable based on your availability and your mentor's availability)
  • Mentorship by CPC, CPMA, CRC, CPCO-certified coders
  • Access to internal tools, coding templates, and audits
  • Opportunity to train on real-world scenarios, not textbook examples

🚀 Why We’re Doing This (WIIFM)

We aren’t just running an externship to hand out certificates, we don't hand out anything. We’re using this program as a vetting ground to identify dedicated, detail-oriented, team players we can train for potential hire. That means:

✅ This externship does not guarantee a job.
✅ However, successful externs will be considered for paid remote positions.

We’re looking for:
  • Critical thinkers with a passion for accuracy
  • Those hungry to learn and grow with a high-performing team
  • People who don’t just code or wait for further instructions—they solve problems

📝 How to Apply

If you’re interested, please fill out the form your resume and a short statement (300 words max) Here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15S73JiLFJfnqnsGuMlbv_Vj6Fs6emsQ1yP71RJkBDR8/edit

DISCLAIMERS: Spots are limited, and we’re interviewing on a rolling basis. If you haven't been chosen to the current cohort, you may be contacted for the next one. We follow AAPC Xtern program, please read the policies and what it entitles. Job is not guaranteed, this is NOT shortcut to a higher salary. Not for international members who reside in other countries. NOT for those of you who come with anger and attitude for the field/ broken expectations, please pass the chance to someone who is truly eager to do this. You don't have to be there, and I don't have to do this. Let's keep the boundaries and be kind, make the difference! For my efforts I ask that you help me around my tasks, the Xternship requires 60%+ of coding, meaning you will deal with administrative tasks as well. Again, if you're not up for it, there are many paid programs/ courses for 100% coding bootcamp. I truly wish I could accept every single one of you. Unfortunately, I can’t. But I am planning future cohorts depending on availability and capacity. So if not now, it doesn’t mean never.
