Hospital A performs a biopsy on an outpatient and patient is discharged (pathology testing is done at path lab A). Hospital B (who is now the primary provider) request additional path testing from path lab B within 14 days of the biopsy collection. Both pathology labs are their own entity they are not either hospitals pathology department. The pathology lab is billing hospital A because they are the ones who collected specimen, even though they did not request this additional testing. Is this accurate, why wouldn't hospital B be responsible for the pathology bill since they requested the test?
