I had a question regarding icd-9 code 173.4 according to bcbs of nj this code expired in 2011. Does anyone know the new code?

Check your ICD-9 CM book, this is a code sub category and is not valid as a code.

I only have the 2010 book do i need a more recent book?

Yes you should get a more recent book. New books come out every year. ICD-9 book in October (for the following year) and CPT books in January (of current year). Sometimes codes are deleted or additional digits are added. You should also subscribe to the AMA. At times the books have errors and the AMA will send you a list of updated codes and corrections. In your case, you need to add a fifth digit. You will need a 2013 ICD 9 book to see which code matches your description
