Need some help with dx and cpt codes for a 19.1 week miscarriage complicated by excessive bleeding. Delivered vaginally with pitocin and cytotec and sent to OR for d/e for retained placenta. weight of fetus was 425 grams. Doc wants to bill for Vaginal Delivery with D/E for retained placenta. I read guidelines that stated you could not bill for a delivery before 22 weeks. Any help is appreciated..
 
19.1 week miscarriage

you could bill for delivery before 22 wks if the fetus was born alive and then expired otherwise no delivery codes before 22 wks per ACOG guidelines. Billing for the extraction of retained placenta would be correct.
