Can anyone tell me how they would handle the billing for a repeat DOT physical. Ex. patient comes in and receives full DOT physical but is not re-certified because of elevated BP. The patient returns several weeks later for a re-check of this and the DOT physical is repeated.

Would you charge for 2 DOT physicals?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Our Family Practice clinic will bill the first visit as a DOT physical, the DOT physical card is placed on "hold". The pt is scheduled for another exam to address the underlying problem as to why it was held. This is billed as an E&M. If the patient passes all requirements or conditions are under control, then they will lift the "hold" and issue the physical form.
