Although we all know that sick visits and wellness visits are not ideally billed on the same date of service, it happens. How are we going to be able to report the sick E/M now? Is this going to be MDM based or will we be able to time stamp the sick visit?
In our clinic, we use a phrase for the additional visits that says "in addition to the wellness visit, I spent __mins, above and beyond the wellness visit, with the patient in reference to the below diagnosis (which is the dx for the sick visit)" This has worked for our clinic and in clinic I have worked in for the past twenty years.
Thoughts about this?? I know in all of the trainings I have sat in on, they have skirted this subject. Now that this is really happening, is there any answers now?
