Can somebody tell me their opinion please. I am getting two answers from most that I ask and am looking for a general consensus. If I am billing 20680 and the dr removed a plate and 6 screws, can it be billed seven times, six with a -59 modifier or only once? There was only one incision.

Thanks

you can only bill it once.

there is an AAOS june 2004 article you can look up. AAOS states you can only bill hardware removal once, no matter how many plates, screws, wires, incisions.

I believe they base it off the original surgery code, if you billed orif of tri mal fx, then all hardware removed for that fx is included in 20680, even if there were 2 incisions (med and lat).

Dx code for medicaid when billing 20680

Does anyone know a billable Dx code to use when billing 20680 to Medicaid?
