Wiki 28120 vs. 28100

Looking for some opinions/feedback: CPT CODE 28120 states: In this procedure, the provider removes the infected portion of the talus or calcaneus bone using craterization, saucerization, or diaphysectomy. So, if there is no indication of an infected portion on the op-note, would you bill 28100 instead? The description doesn't say "or an infected portion", so I understand it to be used only if there is an infection. Thanks! Can't wait to hear your responses!

Code 28120 is for the removal of bone (talus or calcaneus) for either infections or bossing which is an over-growth. So the bone does not necessarily need to be infected for using this code. 28100 however does state that it is for removal of bone cysts or benign tumors. My question at this point is: What is your diagnosis for removing bone from the talus or calcaneus?
