When putting in a trach can a 60200 be billed if he is separating the isthmus

CPT 31600 Only

Hello,

I would only bill CPT 31600 for the tracheostomy since the separating of the isthmus is included in the procedure. Please see the description below:

The physician creates a tracheostomy. The physician makes a horizontal neck incision and dissects the muscles to expose the trachea. The thyroid isthmus is cut if necessary. The trachea is incised and an airway is inserted. After bleeding is controlled, a stoma is created by suturing the skin to the tissue layers.

I hope this helps :)
