Hello, I'm a cardiothoracic coder and I have a surgical question. Could someone please help explain the difference between 33020 (Pericardiotomy for removal of clot or foreign body), and 39010 (Mediastinotomy with exploration, DRAINAGE, removal of foreign body, transthoracic approach)? My surgeon did a thoracotomy for drainage of a pericardial effusion. Thank you.
