This is a venous catheterization question: if access is obtained at the left popliteal vein, and a catheter is inserted into the left common iliac vein, what code would you use for that catheterization, 36005 or 36011?

Thank you,

Allison, CPC, CCC

According to my Interventional Radiology book it was still be considered a 36005 since it is on the same side as the access. It would have to branch off into another vessel to be a 1st order, like the internal iliac.

Hope this helps.
