I am having difficulty finding specific guidelines on the amount of involvement needed in order for our radiologists to bill for the 3D reconstrution add on codes. The ACR has some guidelines however they seem to leave a lot of grey area that leaves me uneasy.

The ACT states that the best way is to document that the physician participated in and monitored the reconstruction process. So does that mean that they could set up a standard protocol based on anatomic location and reason for the exam and then review the images and that would meet the criteria?

We have a dedicated 3D Lab with a specially trained radiology tech that performs these 3D recons on a dedicated machine - so it's not as if these are done on the scanner.

If anyone has another reference that may be helpful I would be most appreciative.
