I'm seeking guidance for the difference between CPT 49203 and 22900.
There is a Practicode case where the procedure was 'excision of abdominal wall endometrioma'. The incision was carried down to the subcutaneous tissue and the notes state the fascia was involved.
My selection for the procedure was 49203 due to the definition of this code "excision or destruction, open, intra-abdominal tumors, cysts, or endometriomas". They have the correct code as 22900. The rationale doesn't indicate why 22900 over 49203. Is it because the endometrioma was of the abdominal wall versus within the abdomen?
