DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE:

The procedure began with 2 mL 0.25% Marcaine used to anesthetize
the skin below the umbilicus . A 40 mm incision was made. The hernia
sack was identified and dissected from the surrounding tissues with a
clamp and bovie cautery. The incision was carried down
through subcutaneous tissues until the anterior rectus fascia was
identified. We resected the
hernia sac and dissected the fascia around the hernia neck. Ventralex
mesh was inserted into the hernia defect and fixated to the fascia with
several interrupted #0 Prolene sutures. The fascia was then sutured on
top of the mesh with additional #0 Prolene suture , using running suture
technique.. 3-0 Vicryl suture was used to tack the base of the umbilicus
to the fascia.
