When coding for repair of a brachial plexus birth injury using a cable nerve graft, should we be using code 64897 for the nerve graft portion of the surgery because the brachial plexus enervates the arm, or should we be using the 64885 CPT code since the repair itself is performed in the neck area? There does not appear to be a specific CPT for a cable graft to the head or neck and the lay descriptions of the codes are different depending on which resources are used.
