Good morning all,

I have an ASC that is placing stents for glaucoma, while doing the IOL surgery. When determining the appropriate CPT code, I found 66175 is the most specific code for the type of surgery, but in the CDR, the last sentence for this surgical description states: "Report 66175 if a polyproptlene suture is placed within the canal to improve aqueous outflow and preserve canal patency." Our surgeons are not placing a suture, but are placing the stent into the Schlem's canal as described.

So if this is the case, that the 66175, has to have a suture, would I then have to use the 66180 with modifier -52? This does not seem appropriate due to the fact that a shunt is not what is being placed.

Don't know if it is because it is Monday, but these cases have me all confused this morning. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Wendy
