is modifier 50 still allowable to bill bilateral or 2 line items for rt and left?

CMS does not allow this code to be billed bilaterally or with multiple units on the same date, so you cannot bill this either way for Medicare patients. I have heard that some payers will allow the code to be billed as a bilateral procedure though.
