we are being told by the FISS system that "724.02" Spinal stenosis of lumbar region was Invalid for 10-1-09 to 9-30-10 (2010). This code appears in the 2010 ICD-9-CM manual and does not appear on the Invalid Code lists for 2010 at CMS. Can anyone explain this to me? Thank you, Susan:confused:

The 724.02 is valid. Maybe its not a valid ICD 9 code with the procedure you are using. Check the LCD's for that CPT code and see if its a valid diagnosis for that CPT.

It is not "invalid" the definition has been revised to include "without neurogenic claudication". New code 724.03 is spinal stenosis, lumbar region, with neurogenic claudication.

Hi All
As lisa curtis said here is the Definitions

724.02 Spinal stenosis, lumbar region, without neurogenic claudication.
724.03 Spinal stenosis, lumbar region, with neurogenic claudication.

We have been using 724.02 Spinal Stenosis for the dates of service you wrote about and have no problems with denials. Are you getting denials?
