What is the difference between a degenerative rotator cuff tear and a non traumatic tear?

I am stumped what the difference is between these codes and which to use when, help please

one has location as "rotator cuff" and the other is a non-descriptive location signifying some type of tear without trauma, usually degenerative type tears.

When you look at "tear" in the ICD9 index, it lists tear as current injury, degenerative, or non traumatic.

I still dont get what difference is between a non traumatic tear and a degenerative tear????
