A few of our cardiology providers travel to Mount Carmel Hospital and perform or read Vascular studies. Recently one of our providers has started to drop CPT code 76706 (Ultrasound, abdominal aorta, real time with image documentation, screening study for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)) instead of 93978 (Duplex scan of aorta, inferior vena cava, iliac vasculature, or bypass grafts; complete study). When i review the report for 76706 it is formatted and documented the same as a report for 93978.

I understand that 76706 is a screening and 93978 is a study but what are qualification for a screening vs a study?

Thank you!
