If a patient presents with pelvic pain in early pregnancy, how does the coding change if the provider sees a viable pregnancy? If they are assessing only the pelvic pain, does the coding change if they discover the patient is pregnant but the pain has nothing to do with the pregnancy? Which U/S code would you use?

It doesn't change. If it is known or suspected that the patient is pregnant, an OB code should be used regardless if the pregnancy is viable or not. Therefore, you would also use the OB codes for abortion situations. If the indication for the ultrasound was pelvic pain and it resulted in the pregnancy being discovered, you would use the regular pelvic code.
