Hi there - I have been reviewing threads in regards to coding 77001 & 76937 for port-a-cath placement. Can anyone please confirm for me if we can code the 77001 for "final tip confirmation"? It seems we could not but it has been awhile since I have coded CT services.

77001 is for fluoroscopy used during a central venous catheter placement, and 76937 is for u/s guidance for vascular access when a imaging of the access is documented.

Hi Jim - CPT states fluoro or US can be used to manipulate the catheter into final central position. If by fluoroscopy, final location must be confirmed radiographically. If by ultrasound, images must be permanently stored.
