If a patient comes in for a flu shot only and is under age 18 can the nurse give shot and charge 90460 with VFC vaccine? The patient is covered under Medicaid.
Thank you for any help!

You can bill Medicaid for administering a VFC vaccine. You will need to bill the vaccine code administered with the SL modifier applied to indicate that it was a State supplied vaccine. The September 2012 Medicaid update says not to bill an administration code for VFC vaccines. We bill these type of vaccines using epaces because they are supposed to be billed as an APG line item. If an adult gets a state supplied vaccine the vaccine is billed with the FB modifier and also the appropriate administration code. Here is the link for the Medicaid update hope it helps. http://www.health.ny.gov/health_care/medicaid/program/update/2012/sept12mu.pdf
