The CPT manual states that 90472 is for each additional vaccine. CPT Assistant, November 2000 states that 90472 is reported once for each addtional vaccine administered.

Can someone please clarify these statements?

If a patient presents for three vaccines all given IM, would you code:

90471
vaccine
90472
vaccine
90472
vaccine

or

is 90472 just listed once?

Thoughts?

Encoder Pro says that the 90472 is to be used with each additional injection so it would be listed twice with the medication listed first.
