Hi there! Can anyone familiar with ophthalmology billing tell me if you can bill a 92014 along with a 99214? Why am I getting asked to put both of these codes for one date of service on a referral authorization?

Please help

Ophthalmologist can usually bill either one but not both on the same claim. Its harder for them to meet the levels required for the normal E&M codes so they are allowed to code E&M or the Comprehensive eye exam instead. Now if its just on the PA its likely they don't know which they are going to bill so they want to get both authorized
