Trying to find anything to support whether or not this code can be billed for anything other than post partum depression screening? Would this code be appropriate for a patient being seen with chronic medical problems (patient age 20 for example) with a parent that is displaying caregiver depression signs? I don't see an age limit anywhere..... thank you!

Hi,
96161 is for administering a questionnaire to a patient's caregiver. Here is an article I found helpful.

Clinical Responsibility
The provider administers a questionnaire designed to help identify a specific health concern, such as depression, to a patient's caregiver. She then reviews the caregiver's answers and determines whether the screening indicates a positive or negative result for the specific health concern. The provider and caregiver go over the results. The provider documents the tool used, the screening results, and her related discussion with the caregiver.
