Patient had I&D of abscess 2 days prior. Dressing removed, there was a spot that was bulging so MD pushed on abscess and express purulent drainage and redressed abscess. I would code this with 99024 or would I report a EM?

Thanks

Was the patient seen by the ED doctor again for the abscess? If yes then the 99024 is appropriate. Was the patient seen by the Primary Care (or other Doctor) then it depends on the documentation. If the documentation supports that this was a different visit by a different specialist then yes a visit can be appropriate. Usually the postoperative follow-up visit is more geared to the surgeon who did the procedure. Most surgical procedure would include a follow E&M by the surgeon.
