I know this has been discussed many times, but wonder if anyone has reviewed the AAP interpretation of the code. They state that the same admission and discharge date refers to the provider care of the baby. The provider sees the baby only once on the same day providing documentation of 2 encounters one for the admission and a second for the discharge. The other codes for newborn hospital encounters state per encounter so the interpretation could be that this one is the same scenario referring to physician care admission and discharge, not hospital admission and discharge.
