We have some patients who require a port flush at home, requiring separate nurse visits outside of their normal drug home infusion. I found this post on this forum from 2016 stating that 99601 can be used just for a nurse visit, including PICC line maintenance, even if no drug is administered. However, besides the post being almost 10 years old, I have a difficult time finding many home infusion resources to support this. My assumption is that a port flush does not count as drug administration per the CPT code description. Has anyone had luck with billing this without a drug infusion, with documentation of what the nurse is there to do if it is requested? Is it ok to bill for this for a home port flush?
