I needs some help. A patient came into the ER complaining of abd pain and low back pain. We ran blood work and found the patient was pregnant. The diagnosis the MD gave me was "New Pregnancy". I know the admitting diagnosis but what do I use for the discharge diagnosis?

Probably a V72.42 for positive pregnancy test. The provide is most likely indicating that the symptoms are normal for positive pregnancy result, and we do not code the symptoms when a definitive dx has been rendered. The V72.42 will be your first listed dx code there does not appear to be a secondary. In coding ER claims there is no admitting and discharge only a primary.
