I would like to clarify from legal stand point the following question. In a medical group practice that is using an EMR system, can a physician access a full patient chart even though he is only treating the patient for a particular condition as a specialist. Is this physician allowed to get access to other physicians notes of the same group for this one patient? :)
 
Yes, as they are all in the same group, sharing the same data. As a group all have access to all records, to review notes, labs, ect... HIPPA still applies to everyone that has access to the records. But I can not see specialists accessing records they don't need to review, they usually do not have the time.
