Hi,
I am overseeing the acupuncture billing at my facility. Can anyone give me advice as to what tasks are included in the face to face contact? The acupuncturist is currently assigning only 97810 (or 97813). I'd like to know, given the time element, when we should bill the 97811 (or 97814). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sammy

All of these codes include face to face time. The difference between the two sets of codes is whether or not electrical stimulation is used. If the time documented is greater than 15 minutes, we charge the 2nd code. If it should extend to 31 minutes, we would then use a quantity of 2 on the second code, although I have never seen that happen where I work.
