I'm trying to bill a laboratory add on code for a non-pathologist in office blood smear reading. We have an in-office laboratory and our provider interprets blood smears (which he can). However, we are always being denied. We've tried the following codes: 99358, 99417, 99418, 80505. Any suggestions???

Hi there, what codes are you reporting those codes with, and is a physician doing the work?

Sorry, what code or codes is 99358 associated with? Is it an E/M code?

Those codes are add-on codes for evaluation and management services. They can't be reported with any other primary code or any procedure. The code descriptions in the book specifically state which codes can be reported together.
They also are not reimbursable through Medicare, if that is the payer being billed.
