We have a patient that we admitted 5 days prior to her delivery for pre eclampsia. She stayed in the hospital untill she delivered 5 days later. BCBS is not paying for her admision saying it is global or the other subsequent visits billed up to delivery. Shouldn't we be getting paid for the admission? and her subsequent visits?

That's not right. I would have coded her days in the hospital with 99221 and 4 days of 99231 ( no discharge) bill that out and then bill the delivery seperatly. I ve been paid without problems

I would double check your dx codes for the admission and subq stays. They should not have a delivery outcome on them, because that did NOT take place yet.

Please let me know if you should come across any other coding questions.
